The Game of Thrones by by George R.R. Martin
Another fantasy novel, I read this before The Name of the Wind, this is the book which has set the benchmark for this genre. What’s so good about it? Why make a TV series? Read on…
Set in a medieval time, there are a number of family factions but they are all loosely ruled by the king. This book is about the fight for the throne.
The reason this book is so amazing is that you are able to see the world through the eyes of multiple people from different factions. My favourite is Tyrion Lannister. Oh yeah the Lannisters are the evil ones apparentiy.
They each have a valid role to play. The book is full of very explicit material, first adult fantasy I have actually read. So if your very young or easily offended do not read it.
So it’s got multiple views is that it? Of course not. There are lots of twists and turns, shockers and heartbreakers. By the end of the book you’ll be an emotional wreck, but luckily there are many sequels left to read.
Would I recommend it? Yes, but invest time in it to learn characters and their factions.
